Rusty was found in an overgrown garden in 2024. He was small, with dirty, matted fur, and showed no signs of ever having lived indoors—so not much is known about his early life. At first, he was very scared and would wet himself when looked at, a heartbreaking sign of how frightened and untrusting he was. Slowly but surely, Rusty is learning to trust humans and come out of his shell. He now enjoys food, head scratches (on his terms!), and ripping up shiny toys! While still shy and nervous at times, Rusty is also affectionate, snuggly, and inquisitive when he feels safe. He likes his own company and spends his days snoozing on the windowsill, where he also sits to watch the ducks on the river go by. Rusty has had extensive dental work since coming into care, and he’s now much more comfortable. He’s now with his longterm foster mum, someone who understands nervous cats and can give him the time, space, and patience he needs to continue building trust.
Rusty is in our long-term foster program and receives ongoing care with us.
